Orthodox Study Bible Update
First of all, we want to thank all of our listeners who have donated to the program. Due to your generosity we were able to mail over 200 Orthodox Study Bibles to non-Orthodox listeners in 18 countries last month. We mailed Bibles to Slovakia, Pakistan, Israel, Sweden, Finland, Nigeria, Ghana, Russia, Canada, Brazil, Australia, and India to name just a few. Each of these Bibles represents someone who has begun a study of the Orthodox Church’s spirituality and teachings.
Unfortunately, the last shipment took almost all of the funds in our account and we have over 250 listeners who have requested Study Bibles that we cannot send. We have over 100 Bible requests from African nations alone, and three to four requests a day coming in from all over the world. This is a comment from a listener in England who is requesting the Study Bible:
“I've attended just one liturgy at a local Orthodox church in Cambridge, but am planning to revisit it… Your radio program has been a real help in this journey and many thanks for the hard work you put into creating an excellent resource for those looking at the Orthodox Church.”
And one from the USA: “… I realized that there's 1500 years of church that I know nothing about (despite a degree in theology, 2 years on the mission field and 25 years in church). So, here I am. Thanks again!”
So, we need your help to keep sending Study Bibles to folks like this. Our cost to send a Bible in the U.S. is 18.00. To send one overseas at the new flat rates is 27.00. (Conciliar Press gives us a very good discounted rate on the Bibles, unfortunately the US Post Office doesn’t.) Our current need is nearly $5,000.00 to meet the outstanding requests alone. With the hundreds of listeners we have, a small gift of even 5.00 from each one each month would take care of the current need and the ongoing and growing requests.
